Sienna & Slate started with a question...

How do people create meaningful lives without losing themselves in the process?

Sienna & Slate was born from a realization that changed how I understood both my work and my life: we do not experience the world objectively. We experience it through the stories we carry.

For years, I was doing everything I was supposed to do. I was working hard, achieving, and moving forward. Yet I often felt disconnected from myself.

As a researcher, I began asking deeper questions about why that disconnect happens. I discovered that the stories we tell about our lives are shaped not only by what happens to us, but by how we understand, interpret, and make meaning from those experiences.

Our families. Our relationships. Our culture. Our disappointments. Our triumphs. The memories we carry and the stories we repeat.

All of them influence how we see ourselves and how we move through the world.

Through my research, I developed Endarkened Narrative Inquiry, a framework for understanding how our stories shape the way we experience ourselves and our lives. At its heart, ENI is a practice of meaning-making. It asks us to pay attention to the stories we carry, the experiences that shaped them, and the possibilities that emerge when we begin to understand ourselves differently.

Over time, I realized something else: Scholarship could become practice.

The questions I was exploring through research were also questions people were living every day.

  • Who am I?
  • What matters to me?
  • What am I carrying?
  • What am I becoming?
  • What does this experience mean for the life I want to create?

Sienna & Slate is where those questions become something you can hold, explore, and live. It is a place where reflection moves beyond an idea and becomes a practice.

Reflection is Part of the Work

We believe reflection is not something you earn after the work is finished. It is part of how we understand ourselves, make meaning of our experiences, and decide what comes next.
Through our Reflection Forward Initiative, we extend access to journals, guides, and reflective resources to individuals and communities who may not otherwise have access to them.

Because reflection should not be a privilege.
